• Administers the Atlin STAR Recycling program - one Recycling Day per month for household recycling.
• Future goals: Community compost, Hazardous Waste Days, work with AID/EID to provide service at new landfill site (when one is selected).
• See www.bigwatersociety.org/Services for view of Recycling Day at Atlin Teen Centre.
• Volunteer attends Yukon Regional Round Table meetings for community collaboration and networking potential.
• Volunteers sit on Ruby Creek Liaison Committee and give input for CAMMP - Adanac adaptive monitoring plan currently under development for socio-economic impacts on Atlin due to project startup.
• Capacity Enhancement project - rep attending Climate workshop to build community skills and learn more about how Non-Profit Societies can obtain funding for projects.
• Climate Change adaptation - following up from March 31, 2007 workshop in Atlin. Next step: working on Community Garden and Compost to provide locally-grown food supplies.
• Monitoring and providing input on Community-based development and industrial development.
• Responding to requests for comments on review of TRTFN Land Use Framework Agreement document.
• Support for community-based projects and direct volunteer involvement in other community groups such as Atlin Advisory Planning Commission and Governance Study Group.
• Interested in results of Haines Junction Scenic Byway project.

Past Projects:

• Atlin Arts & Music Festival - very involved in initial 3 years. Festival now has its own Society and is very successful under the ongoing guidance of Rick Newberry and other dedicated locals. Original stipulations: Family oriented, inclusive green event showcasing Atlin Visual Arts talent, the incredible musical talent in available in the Atlin region, and the awesome landscape. All these aspects have remained central to the event, although the musical talent has become international in scope.
• Atlin Ski Club - supported start-up and visiblilty of winter sports in Atlin.
• ESL in the Wild - developed outline of course to encourage wilderness English Second Language instruction, now offered under NLC.
• Alternative Energy for Atlin - just after SASEI selected this as a goal, we discovered that TRTFN was already working on this issue. We applaud their Micro-Hydro project and look forward to having locally-produced green energy.

Mission Statement: To promote and encourage sustainability of the community and watersheds surrounding Atlin in such a manner and by such means as will provide for sustainable growth and socio-economic stability while preserving its wilderness setting, history and natural beauty.

In terms of Atlin's economy, we define sustainability as being long-term, stable, diverse, community-based and ecologically sound.
